WITHAM VALE ARENAS
Quality Equine Construction
Family owned and run for over 30 years.....
The first thing to say is that there is no such thing as the perfect riding surface for all purposes that will suit every rider. Some surfaces are excellent for dressage but less good for jumping and vice versa. We therefore aim to install the correct surface to suit the individual customer’s preference and budget. We believe that the secret of a good riding arena depends, as much if not more, on the underlying drainage and baseworks as on the actual riding surface.
DRAINAGE
As contractors with 35 years experience of land drainage, we believe that the right solution is a piped drainage system under the base with an outlet to the nearest ditch, stream or soakaway. In this way the water is carried away quickly from the arena site and does not depend as much on natural soil drainage.
BASE
It is essential to install a good base material and the best is limestone or granite which will remain firm and yet be porous. If the right base is installed, the need for a top membrane beneath the riding surface is eliminated. Occasionally crushed screened concrete may be used but this needs to be blinded with a porous material, such as ash or limestone or road planings.
